Cambridge
Christian senior baseball player Derek Self on Monday signed with
Webber International, an NAIA program located in Babson Park.
Self, an outfielder/left-handed pitcher, had interest from Palm
Beach Atlantic and several other out-of-state schools, but chose Webber
International because of his desire to stay closer to home, according
to his father, Jim.
Self has been an all-state selection each of the past three seasons,
in 2007 and 2008 while at Seffner Christian and last season with the
Lancers, who he helped reach the Class 1A state title game.
Self went 6-0 on the mound for the Lancers last season, posting a
2.27 ERA in 37 innings pitched. He struck out 40 and walked just six.
Self also hit .342 with 35 runs scored and 14 RBIs.
Self will have the opportunity to both pitch and play the outfield in college.
