Alonso High senior baseball player Tyler Ding has verbally committed to the University of Tampa, Ravens coach Landy Faedo said Tuesday.

Ding, Alonso's starting second baseman, had a huge junior season, hitting .476 with eight doubles, two home runs, 26 RBIs, 31 runs scored and 23 stolen bases for the Class 6A state champion Ravens. He earned Class 6A first-team all-state honors and was a Tribune All-Hillsborough County first-team pick.

Ding's 2009 campaign followed a very successful sophomore year in which he hit .388 with nine doubles, two home runs, 32 RBIs, 20 runs scored and 15 stolen bases.

Ding is the second Alonso senior to commit to a college program. Left-handed pitcher Thomas Dorminy previously committed to USF.
